Resolutions

I made a New Year’s Resolution a few years ago. It was: “I resolve never to make another resolution ever again!” So far, it’s the only resolution I’ve ever actually kept. Every hear around this time, I hear lots of resolutions like this:

I’m going to lose [insert number here] pounds
I’m going to be a size [insert number here]
I want to look like [insert model/actress name here]

What boggles my mind is that people rarely have a plan (appropriate diet + exercise). A few months ago, the fabulously fit David Kirsch came to HQ to educate us about his products. David Kirsch is a former body builder now gym owner/personal trainer to the stars/supplement maker extraordinaire who chose Bliss as the exclusive retailer for his products outside of his own retail store/online business. That’s pretty exciting!

David is truly an inspiration to all of us who eat candy and justify it as a serving of fruit because it tastes like lemon (am I the only one who does that?). He’s fit, he’s buff, and he’s completely dedicated his life to being the best he can be from the inside out. David’s philosophy is that anyone at any age can have a healthy mind, body and spirit. Easy for someone who hangs out with Liv Tyler and Heidi Klum all day! My thoughts on the situation-If it’s good enough for Heidi Klum, it’s good enough for me! I managed to get my clammy paws on a few samples. I tried the protein shakes which are delicious and are a lifesaver for anyone on the run. These are especially great for frequent travelers who have a hard time finding something edible in airports or on airplanes. They’re all single-serving packets pre-measured for the perfect portions. It doesn’t get much easier than that. A box of 20 is $58, which is extremely reasonable because it’s a full meal replacement. Where else can you get 20 meals for $58? Not at my grocery store!

I know I’m never going to look like Heidi Klum, and that’s okay. My genetics just weren’t in place for that to happen, but if I can live a healthier life by making simple changes ie: switch that piece of chocolate cake for a chocolate shake! I’m all about it! I’m a practical person who likes to live logically and I know that this is a change I can make. Not only has David Kirsch made it easy for lazy-pants like me to eat sensibly and make the “right” choice, but he’s done it at an attainable price point. The protein shakes are cheaper than any value meal at McDonalds and pack a serious nutritional punch. I would highly recommend the products to anyone and everyone-these are products you can’t afford to live without. As always, talk to your doctor before you start any diet or exercise program!

Sales!

Have you gone shopping at any of the post-holiday blowout sales? I attempted to stimulate the economy this evening by taking a little shopping trip downtown. It was a mild evening, so I walked a couple of miles from the office to Union Square. I stopped at a bunch of stores on my way: Anthropologie (a guilty pleasure of mine), J Crew, Banana Republic, Crate & Barrel, Coach, Zara, Barnes & Noble, but nothing jumped out at me. I have always been cautious with my money, but even more so lately. If I don’t love something, I don’t buy it.

Speaking of things I love, I am stocking up on my beloved high intensity eye contour before it goes extinct. My heart broke a little bit when I found out it was going to be discontinued-it’s everything I love and need in an eye cream-a little caffeine to reduce my morning puffy eyes, a little moisturization to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and it made the perfect base for applying concealer on top of-not too slippery, but still hydrating. It’s the perfect all-year eye cream. It’s hydrating in the winter and controls allergy-induced puff. Since I moved to New York two years ago I am allergic to virtually everything. Lucky me.

*sigh* Farewell, my little eye cream friend. You will be missed.

I am so excited to play with the new Laboratoire Remede skin care when it launches. They’ve really got the products under wraps right now. I’m pretty sure the CIA is guarding the samples, because I haven’t been able to get my little paws on any of it, but I am being patient *hint hint*

If you are a Remede lover please don’t wait to stock up on your favorites before they’re gone. If you’re a skin care diva who loves to try the hottest new products, hang tight; The new Remede is on its way!

If you are making a purchase between now and January 3rd, use code: 128918 for 15% off all Bliss and Remede purchases*. Our gift to you to start your new year right.

Meet Stephanie!

Greetings Bliss Enthusiasts,

My name is Stephanie, I am the publissity coordinator at bliss spas. I am here to supplement Karen’s blog with a few entries of my own, and maybe drop a few comments on Karen’s posts as well.

Speaking of ‘posts’, I’d like to share some of bliss’ no-fail Post Holiday Tips with you. Feel free to follow these to ensure the most stress-free holiday season.

• Cold chopped cucumbers, rolled up in a paper-towel-type pack, make a fast and fresh eye saving mask, for those mornings when you’re battling under-eye bulge.
• A good, solid scrubbing also seems to work wonders on skins that have gone down to the depths of post-party ‘grey’ and grunge. Exfoliating not only removes dead cells and oil (which can build up and give your skin a sallow toned tint) but stimulates circulation under the skin.
• Prevention also eliminates puff. Before you hit the pillow, take a couple of aspirin (as long as you’re not allergic), down a bottle of water, and eat a banana (we all need our magnesium).
• As brutal as it may be, a warm/cold/warm/cold cold cold cold shower really wakes up your circulation.

Happy Holidays!

Stephanie

How to have a great New Year’s Eve

Looking gorgeous on NYE is a no-brainer. There’ll be lip-locking at midnight, unforgiving digital cameras present (too much flash, not enough light, too many green apple martinis=bad photos), and a long night of whatever shenanigans you plan on participating in.

What’s a girl to do?
1. Stay hydrated. It’s going to be hot, you’re going to be dancing, and you’ll probably have some lovely beverage in your hand that isn’t water. This looks like a recipe for dehydration if I ever did see one. Beauty comes from within, ladies! I hate drinking plain water, but throw some kind of low-cal fruity flavor in it and I’m good to go. David Kirsch’s vitamin super juice does the trick for me.

2. Be prepared! There is nothing worse than dancing away and all of a sudden you’ve got a blister somewhere that leaves you limping for the rest of the night. The pirate look is out this season, sister! Problem Salved is a purse friendly (it will fit into my tiniest of clutches) beauty fix that does it all. It helps blisters, fly away hairs, unruly eyebrows, etc. Just don’t put it on your lips. I mean, you can, but try explaining to your midnight kiss why your breath smells like your shoes. Just sayin’…

3. Wear something flattering. We’ve all seen *that* girl who’s wearing something a little too small or a little too inappropriate even for New Year’s Eve. If you think your beloved grandmother would have a stroke if she saw you in that dress, give it to your niece for her Barbie and buy a new dress! Also, wardrobe malfunctions a la Janet Jackson are a no-no. Gather the girls, ladies! If I can keep my extra large bust under wraps, so can you.

4. Get ready for the morning after. Sure you looked great last night, but I know you’re not going to remember to remove your makeup when you get home. The next morning, do some damage control. I don’t tell many people about my little beauty….Baggage Handler is every party girl’s best friend. It de-puffs with cucumber and hydrates the under eye area with wheat proteins for long term hydration. Just what the doctor ordered for the morning after!
