10 Tips for Valentine’s Day Bliss

Whether you’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow or have a special place in mind for Cupid to stick his bow + arrow, here are some Miss Bliss tips for having a blissful Valentine’s Day.

10. Skip the $4.99 box of chocolates that taste like wax. Book yourself a double choc pedicure at the spa and sip a cup of hot cocoa.

9. Slip into a nice hot bubble bath and grab a glass of wine.

8. Call up your girlfriends, grab some trashy magazines and start a pool of who will be broken up by the end of 2009. My vote: J-Lo + Marc call it quits by the first day of spring.

7. Get as smooth as that annoying baby Cupid’s bum + wax wherever you want to defuzz.

6. Skip the day all together. It’s on a Saturday this year. Barney’s is probably having a sale anyway.

5. Make a customized photo book so you’ll always remember the fun times you had. These make a beautiful gift-hubby made me one for Christmas. Very romantical.

4. Treat yourself (or someone else) to some serious relaxation with a massage.

3. Skip the overpriced Valentine’s day menu-the service stinks on Valentine’s Day anyway. Check out yelp.com for recommendations for delivery.

2. For dessert, light some candles, dim the lights and indulge in some chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. Edible Arrangements™ has scrumptious, juicy strawberries that are sure to be a hit.

1. If you don’t have a man, go get yourself an I don’t need a man-icure at the spa with your best girlfriends and be glad you didn’t have to spend an hour at Hallmark looking for a cheesy $4 greeting card.

FitFlop Billow On Sale!

the billow by FitFlop

the billow by FitFlop

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, silly-not Christmas. Discount Billow Season! Yes, FitFlops are on sale! Okay, I totally just made that up, but it sounds like a calendar-worthy holiday if you ask me!

I hereby declare January 30th as FitFlop Billow goes on sale day! (wonder if we can get a day off out of this one!)

The Billow by FitFlop was $125 and is now marked down to $99.95 + shipping (unless you have a free shipping code kickin around!)

The Fit Flop’s uniquely built multi-density midsole activates muscles midstep to help tone your thighs, your calves and your glutes. In fact, Fit Flops are biomechanically engineered to absorb shock and lessen joint strain – but with a powerful new built-in micro-wobbleboard workout-enhancing effect.

FITFACT: Fit Flops work your butt muscles more: A SIGNIFICANTLY longer stimulation of the gluteus maximus muscle was measured in Fit Flop wearer trial testing!

I normally wear orthotics. Can I wear the Fit Flop?
The Fit Flop has been designed with a regularly shaped footbed, however, the multi-density midsole creates a micro-wobbleboard action that challenges the muscles of the foot and arch, and therefore might not be suitable for everyone who needs orthotics. We recommend that you err on the side of caution and consult your podiatrist prior to wearing Fit Flops if you currently rely on orthotic support.

Can I wear Fit Flops if I am pregnant?
Again, we’d recommend that pregnant women check with their obstetrician or GP first, before engaging in a fitness routine based around, or a lot of walking in the Fit Flop. Because a pregnant woman’s tendons can be more susceptible to stretching, minor variances in gait and foot flexion caused by use of the Fit Flop might lead to muscle soreness or hyperextension. Note: Walking in Fit Flops is an excellent way to get back in shape post-partum.

Are they suitable for a wide fit?
Yes, Fit Flops are suitable for a wide foot. Because the Fit Flop’s footbed is slightly wider than average, they fit pretty much every foot in width. If you have an extremely high instep, you may have to go up a size initially, or spend a few days wearing in the midsole, which custom moulds and compresses to fit your instep height after a couple of days of intensive use.

Travel-Friendly Beauty

I am excitedly awaiting a mini-vacation to Las Vegas next week and will only be going for 3 nights, which does not merit checking a bag in my opinion. I have friends who pack a suitcase for an overnight visit, but that’s not my style. Only necessities come with me and my motto is: If I forgot it, then it wasn’t important enough to remember, in which case I don’t need it.

….unless what I forgot is a toothbrush, in which a field trip to the local pharmacy or a call to the front desk is made. Nothing says vacation like dragon breath, right? Wrong!

The hardest part about bringing only a carry-on bag is that you’re limited to that 3-1-1 rule (maximum 3 ounces, 1 quart-sized bag, 1 bag per traveler). How is a beauty fanatic supposed to travel like that!? My contact solution has already been axed from the equation because it’ll take up too much space in my bag. I’ll buy some when I check in to my hotel. Obviously I have my priorities in order :)

If I was going to be staying at a W Hotel, this would not be a problem because I would have some fantastic hotel amenities to look forward to, like some Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, a two-in-one gel cleanser and exfoliator; Soapy Sap to get sudsy in the tub with; and, of course, our world famous Lemon + Sage Body Butter.

The set also includes our Lemon + Sage Shampoo and Conditioner, as well as an adorable baby-sized version of the lemon and sage soap slab.

If you’re afraid of committing to full-sized items, this is the perfect intro to Blisss skin care + body care with generous try-me sizes of our top-selling products. They look tiny, but a little bit goes a long way!

Q & A With Miss Bliss

Q: Dear Miss Bliss,

I am impressed to see that you are very preg savvy–Is there a moisturizer to go along with the above regime (thank you so much for it by the way!), without the ingredients that we should avoid?

Love,
Moisturizing Mom-To-Be

A: Dear Moisturizing-Mom-To-Be ,

Is there a moisturizer out there for you? Does Miss Bliss love lemon + sage body butter? The answer, if you didn’t know, is YES!

Thank you for the compliment, by the way. Although I’m not a doctor (nor do I play one on television), we have a fantastic team of experts here who are ingredient-savy and can answer the tough question, so feel free to bring them our way!

Now on to moisturizers safe to use while pregnant.
The top recommendation from several sources is pur~lisse’s pur moist hydra balance moisturizer is a true moisturizing hero during pregnancy. This non-greasy moisturizing marvel will quickly quench and drench skin with a blend of ultra-hydrating, soothing French marine plants that also fiercely fight free radicals and the formation of fine lines. Lotus Lupine Peptide Complex and vitamin E keep skin beautifully balanced and dewy.

Pur~lisse is every pregnant woman’s best friend-the blend of skin-friendly ingredients can alleviate commons skin issues associated with pregnancy and can be used as part of your daily skin regimen to improve tone and complexion. Also, every Pur~lisse product is
paraben preservatives-free, petrochemical-free, propylene-glycol-free, chemical color and fragrance-free, cruelty-free.

This moisturizer receives rave reviews from moms-to-be around HQ (and we’ve had many a Bliss baby born here in the past couple of years!).

Not so beauty related

Little Miss Bliss has turned into little Miss Sniff! My allergies have decided to take up a permanent residence in my body, leaving me sniffling, sneezing, and wheezing for the entire year. What used to be just a seaonal discomfort from May until August has fully bloomed into a full-on nasal crisis! ACHOO!

rudolfThe holiays have come and gone and Rudolf is not a good look for me at all. Going through a box of tissues every 3 days is a rough on the schnoz!

We’ve been gushing about the gazillion and one ways to use Problem Salved since it launched in May. Healing chapped noses is by far the most underrated use for it.

Have you ever taken a tiny pump of [insert brand here] lotion or moisturizer, apply it to your nose and it starts burning like someone lit a fire somewhere embedded in the 7 layers of skin? fire Ouch, ouch, ouch!

I decided to get adventurous and dig Problem Salved out of the trunk of beauty products in my apartment. Problem Salved is soothing, non-greasy, and has skin healing properties from a blend of natural plant extracts that target irritation associated with skin dryness, stress, sensitivities, detergent use, inflammation, and UV exposure.

What makes Problem Salved so special? Mango butter, which is rich in vitamin E and highly moisturizing with soothing, emollient properties which help support optimal skin repair

kukui nut oil (also known as candlenut), a tree native to Hawaii, immediately relieves symptoms of irritation and provides a protective shield that locks in moisture; used to soothe sunburn, windburn, heat induced burns, and chapped skin, antioxidant vitamins A, C and E

Tea tree oil a natural essential oil known for soothing insect bites and stings and recognized for anti-microbial action, suitable even for sensitive skin. This ingredient is what allows it to be used on multiple areas from chapped noses to waxed skin without harvesting a cruise ship of cooties (like your office door handle, your keyboard, cell phone, subway handles).

With all these fantastic ingredients, you just might be looking foward to allergy season or your next winter cold. Okay, maybe not.
