To mix or not to mix??? that is the question…

Our meeting debate of the day was… should we pre-mix steep clean mask to make it easier for the customer to use? Some people like mixing the blue with the yellow… others think it would be better if we blended them in the lab and removed an extra step for the customer.

Would love to hear what steep clean mask fans think… your wish is our command!

How to say “bye bye” to blemishes

Zits, pimples, blemishes, breakouts….whatever you call ‘em, the only thing that matters is that they go away!

Our secret weapons against blemishes are about become very public knowledge!
1. Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask: It’s not only good for brightening and hydrating. It’s detoxifyin! Did you know: blemish-causing bacteria are unable to survive with oxygen present. Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask detox-es by creating an oxygen environment on the skin which helps prevent bacteria from causing breakouts.

How is this different from an oxygenating product that contains a form of hydrogen peroxide?
The oxygen delivery system in Triple Oxygen Energizing Mask is a more advanced, efficient way to deliver oxygen to the skin surface. It is truly the next generation of skin care. Also, hydrogen peroxide based products have been known to bleach eyebrows if not carefully applied!

Can you use the Triple Oxygen Energizing Mask with other masks?
Yes! The Triple Oyxgen Energizing Mask is not exfoliating.
It is energizing and detoxifying. So you can definitely use it several times each week AND still use our steep clean mask (which is enzymatic and exfoliating) or peeling groovy (an amino acide based exfoliating, decongesting, pore minimizing serum).

2. Bliss Steep Clean Pore Purifying Mask is our professional-strength mask for clearer skin. It’s a once a week, 15-minute facial in a bottle that declogs and minimizes the appearance of pores, brightens the skin, and regulates oil without drying. We use this mask every day in our instant mattification facial.

This pore plunging, clog clearing mask will transform skin into a scene of extremely clean when used weekly for 15 minutes. Intensive exfoliation, oil elimination, and deep pore purging are a perfect for all (but especially pimple prone) skin types.

Cheers to getting ‘clear’!

Q & A with Miss Bliss

Q: Dear Miss Bliss,

Thanks for the tips! If possible, can you elaborate on how long of a shelf life each type of product would have? I know generally the shelf lives of makeup, but wasn’t too sure about moisturizers, face washes, and the like. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Self Life Savy

A: Dear Shelf Life Savy,

Great question! This is an easy answer. The period after opening symbol or PAO symbol is a graphic symbol that identifies the useful lifetime of a cosmetics product after its package has been opened for the first time. It depicts an open cosmetics pot and is used together with a written number of months or years.

In the European Union, cosmetics products with a shelf-life of at least 30 months are not required to carry a “best used before end of …” date. Instead, there has to be “an indication of the period of time after opening for which the product can be used without any harm to the consumer”. The EU Cosmetics Directive defines in Annex VIIIa the language-neutral open-jar symbol, which manufacturers should use to indicate this period.

The time period is most often represented compactly as a number of months, followed by the letter “M”, as in “36M” for a period of three years, written either onto the front side of the depicted pot, or to the right of it. The letter “M” is the initial for the word month not only in English, but also in many other languages.

If you flip your lovely skin care around, you’ll see something that looks like this:
poa

This particular product would be good for 30 months after opening. So if you opened that product today 4/10/2009, it would be good until 10/10/11 *checking my mental math*

The POA (period after opening) varies by product, so I recommend checking it when you open it to ensure freshness. Hope this helps!

The R.E.S.T. Initiative

mirror_girl7I had the fabulous opportunity to speak to Pamela Schein Murphy, founder and president of The R.E.S.T. Initiative. The mission of The R.E.S.T Initiative is not only to ease the chemotherapy experience through the application of complementary massage and bodywork, but more importantly, to add a positive and nurturing component to a process. Bliss Spas offer the R.E.S.T. Intenions Massage and Bliss will donate 20% of profits to the R.E.S.T. Initiative.

Miss Bliss: I see that relief, energy, synergy, touch are the four mantras that The R.E.S.T. Initiative is built on. What do these words mean to you?

Pamela: Each word is about bringing relief to patients going through chemotherapy. All four words have a positive, healing feeling to them. A feeling that The R.E.S.T. Initiative tries to bring to every patient we interact with.

Miss Bliss: What gave you the idea to start The R.E.S.T. Initiative?

Pamela: I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and chemotherapy was by far the worst part of the whole experience. Not only does it make you feel unbelievably awful, the actual treatment is fraught with a tremendous amount of anxiety. On top of that, the treatments can be unbelievably long and there are so many people poking you, prodding you, and asking questions. I wanted to create something that would bring a healing touch to the process – to inject some wellness into something so focused on illness. And so, And so, The R.E.S.T. Initiative was born.

Miss Bliss: Well, I’m glad that you found some inspiration through that experience. The R.E.S.T. Initiative is a great cause! How can someone undergoing chemotherapy treatment access The R.E.S.T. Initiative for complementary massage?

Pamela: We’re currently offering complementary massages to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments at the NYU Clinical Cancer Center. Our massage therapists are on site from 9:30am-6pm, five days a week. We’re hoping to expand to other cities in the coming years.

Miss Bliss: Awesome! So how can people get involved with The R.E.S.T. Initiative?

Pamela: Donations are always welcome. It costs as little as $15 to provide a complementary massage to a chemotherapy patient. Every donation helps, whether it’s big or small. Also, massage therapists who are interested in volunteering their time are encouraged to reach out to us by email at info@restinitiative.org.

Miss Bliss: Wow, just $15 can bring a complementary massage to a cancer patient?! I think I have $15 worth of change in between my couch cushions right now! What advice would you give to people who are currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments?

Pamela: I think it’s all about attitude. Staying positive is half the battle. I recommend focusing on the fact that the treatments are for a limited amount of time and will be behind you eventually. Try to remain positive and active and don’t let the treatments take over your life. Do what feels good to you-eat what feels right, sleep when you feel like it, stay active. Don’t put your life on hold for it.

Miss Bliss: That’s great advice. So now that your chemotherapy days are in the past, what brings you bliss?

Pamela: Bliss Spa, of course! A R.E.S.T. Intentions Massage or a Triple Oxygen Teatment keeps me looking and feeling glow-y!

Miss Bliss: I couldn’t agree more!
