Need a refresher on who our glam-loving good samaritans are and what they do? Here you go:
Kent: has been bringing food to the homeless for the past 4 years in Ann Arbor, Michigan. AND, he raises money for orphans with HIV/AIDS in Tanzania, Africa. He gives up 3 weeks of his vacation time to spend in Tanzania helping with painting, carpentry, and acts of kindness.

Katherine: is in AmeriCorps VISTA (the domestic Peace Corps) and moved to Alaska to work at a homeless shelter for teens. AND she goes out to help at the food bank and other homeless shelters.

Mary: executive director of N Street Village, which provides a “village of services” for homeless women in Washington, DC. Mary reaches out to companies for donations of goods, money, and services (dental care, massage, lunch, low-income housing, shelter, clothes, etc) so that the women can readily get what they need.

Jared: worked with GLSEN to start the first gay-straight alliance in the Cleveland Public school system. Jared is currently the president of PRIDE in college and in his spare time, he sits on the board of TPAN (test positive awareness network), the largest AIDS activist organization in Chicago. In 2007 he was honorable mention for Chicago’s Windy City Times “30 under 30″ award. He also received the Student Activist of the Year Award from the Human Rights Campaign. He’ll be graduating from college in May and will be going to work in New Orleans for Teach for America.

Ashley: who is currently a student at Northwestern medical School and works with victims of rape and sexual assault in Chicago. She has been involved in Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence on campus and worked as an educator at the campus support center. Ashley is also a medical advocate and helps survivors navigate through medical options, and provides non-judgmental support to survivors.

Miss Julia spent countless hours organizing Twestival and took all of the volunteers under her proverbial wing to ensure that Twestival was a success. Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Jeanette for her selfless contributions of time and promotion for Charity:Water. Jeanette helped raise money and awareness for Charity:Water, which helps provide fresh drinking water to hundreds of people in developing nations. As an organizer for Twestival in New York City, her spirit and community involvement made the event a success.

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Jared F, a college student who has been volunteering for GLSEN to start the first gay-straight alliance in the Cleveland Public school system. He worked as a mid-west co-chair for GLSEN National’s Jump Start Student Leadership Team and his activism continued in college as the president of PRIDE. In 2007 he was an honorable mention for Chicago’s Windy City Times “30 Under 30″ award. Last July, Jared was honored to receive the Student Activist of the Year Award from the Human Rights Campaign. Jared will graduate this May with a degree in Political Science and will be going on to work in New Orleans for Teach for America.

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Katherine who “joined AmeriCorps VISTA (aka, the domestic Peace Corps) and moved from warm Georgia to not-so-warm Alaska for a year of full time volunteering. She works at a homeless shelter for teens and works on things like getting the word out about the organization, working fundraisers, and just generally making sure they get the funding they need. It’s a thankless job, but absolutely crucial. And if that weren’t enough volunteering, she still goes out to help at the food bank and other homeless shelters around town or just buys someone a sandwich if they’re hungry. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make all the difference.”

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Sandra W who belongs to an organization called the Box Project, for which she sends boxes of food/clothing/presents to a poor family in Mississippi every couple months. At Christmas time she takes on an additional family for which she sends Christmas gifts and other things to brighten their holiday. And if that wasn’t enough, she recently started helping a family with food, clothing, school supplies, and gifts to help the family out.

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Tifanny C, who has worked with Horizons for Homeless a program that works with homeless children and she is also the manager of research and development for the Junior League of Boston. The manager of research and development makes sure that all of our community based programs are running efficiently while providing the best service possible to the community. She is a wonderful, tireless volunteer in the Boston area.

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Breanne D, as a woman who (in addition to being a great friend and phenomenal lawyer) is dedicated to several charities. Most notably, she sits on the executive committee of the Junior Council for Northwestern Children’s Memorial Hospital, raising money for children’s aids research. She just finished planning one of Chicago’s most loved charity events, Junior Council’s “Snowball” at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
