Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Jared F, a college student who has been volunteering for GLSEN to start the first gay-straight alliance in the Cleveland Public school system. He worked as a mid-west co-chair for GLSEN National’s Jump Start Student Leadership Team and his activism continued in college as the president of PRIDE. In 2007 he was an honorable mention for Chicago’s Windy City Times “30 Under 30″ award. Last July, Jared was honored to receive the Student Activist of the Year Award from the Human Rights Campaign. Jared will graduate this May with a degree in Political Science and will be going on to work in New Orleans for Teach for America.

Today’s glam loving good samaritan is Katherine who “joined AmeriCorps VISTA (aka, the domestic Peace Corps) and moved from warm Georgia to not-so-warm Alaska for a year of full time volunteering. She works at a homeless shelter for teens and works on things like getting the word out about the organization, working fundraisers, and just generally making sure they get the funding they need. It’s a thankless job, but absolutely crucial. And if that weren’t enough volunteering, she still goes out to help at the food bank and other homeless shelters around town or just buys someone a sandwich if they’re hungry. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make all the difference.”
